It Takes a Village

22 December 2016

Community, “village”, and support have been on my mind this week and I wanted to thank you for being a part of my community and allowing me to be part of yours.

Whether you live alone or with your family or with friends, we are all part of a community.  It’s nice to know we have each other’s backs when we need help or extra support.  Life can be tough, though you don’t have to experience these times alone.  We each bring something to the table and each have something unique to share.

This can be a tough time of year for many:  finishing up finals, getting ready for the holidays, getting ready to move, traveling to see family and friends, figuring out finances, starting or ending a relationship, etc.  Just knowing that we are not alone and not the only one experiencing tough times can be comforting.

If you’re new to an area and/or want to be part of a community, here are some places to meet up with others:

  1. Join or start a Meetup group in your area:  There are thousands of groups that get together to play games, try new restaurants, exercise, share faith, scrapbook, craft, etc.
  2. Local Community Centers and Parks & Recreation usually host several free or fairly inexpensive classes, sports teams, and events each month.
  3. Check your local library and their event bulletin board for local groups and events.
  4. Local stores and restaurants usually have a community bulletin board as well.
  5. If you have a religious affiliation, find out when services are held and if they host any community activities.
  6. The people who help us through difficult times are just as important as those with whom we have fun.  Take the time this holiday season to connect with others in the community.

Are you interested in getting more involved in your local community?  Do you know others who are interested in joining our health community? Let’s talk! I invite you to connect with me for a Free Health Breakthrough Coaching Session to discuss your 2017 wellness vision and other healthy community tips and ideas—or pass this offer on to someone you care about!
